Apple CEO Tim Cook used the closing moments of WWDC 2026 to reflect on his leadership journey, delivering what is expected to be his final appearance at the company's annual developer conference as chief executive. The remarks came two months after Apple announced that Cook would step down as CEO in September 2026, ending nearly 15 years at the helm of the company.
Cook Reflects on Apple's Developer Community
Speaking at the end of Apple's keynote presentation, Cook described WWDC as one of the most meaningful parts of his tenure, highlighting the role developers have played in shaping the Apple ecosystem.
He praised developers for using Apple's technologies to create products and services that help people connect, learn, create and experience the world in new ways. “Sharing powerful new tools with all of you and then seeing what you create with them has been a constant reminder that imagination has no limits,” Cook said during the event.
Confidence in Apple's Future
Cook also expressed optimism about Apple's future, pointing to the technologies and products showcased during WWDC 2026.
While acknowledging the company's ongoing transition into the artificial intelligence era, he said Apple remains focused on building products that improve people's lives. “I truly believe the best is still ahead,” Cook said, signaling confidence in the company's next chapter under new leadership.
Leadership Transition Nears
Apple announced in April that Cook would step down as CEO on September 1, 2026. He will transition to the role of executive chairman of Apple's board, while current Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering John Ternus will become the company's next chief executive.
Ternus has played a major role in the development of several of Apple's flagship products, including the iPhone, iPad and AirPods, and is expected to lead the company through its next phase of hardware and AI innovation.
End of an Era
During his closing remarks, Cook reflected on Apple's long-standing mission of creating products that enrich people's lives and described his time leading the company as the "honor of a lifetime." His departure from the CEO role marks the end of a significant chapter in Apple's history, one that saw the company expand its product lineup, grow its services business and become one of the world's most valuable technology companies.
