Apple is introducing a new AI-powered feature for Safari that allows users to create their own browser extensions simply by describing what they want in natural language.

The feature, unveiled at WWDC 2026, aims to address one of Safari's long-standing weaknesses: its relatively limited extension ecosystem compared to competing browsers such as Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.

AI-Generated Extensions for Safari

During a demonstration, Apple showed how users can create custom Safari extensions by entering a simple text prompt. In one example, a user asked Safari to create a tool that could save and organize cooking recipes from across the web while allowing notes to be added to each recipe. Using Apple Intelligence, Safari generated a working extension called "Recipe Keeper" based on that description.

The feature effectively brings the concept of "vibe coding" to Safari, allowing users to build personalized browser tools without needing programming knowledge.

Addressing Safari's Extension Gap

Safari has traditionally lagged behind rivals when it comes to browser extensions, partly due to Apple's stricter development requirements and smaller developer ecosystem. If the new AI-powered tool performs as advertised, it could help users create functionality that may not be available through existing Safari extensions.

The approach may also appeal to users who are increasingly using AI tools to build personal software and automate everyday tasks.

Apple Expands AI Features in Safari

The extension generator is part of Apple's broader effort to bring more artificial intelligence capabilities to its products. In recent years, browsers such as Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Firefox have rapidly adopted AI-powered features, while Safari's AI offerings have remained relatively limited.

Before this announcement, Safari's primary AI feature was Highlights, which provides AI-generated summaries and key information from webpages. With the addition of AI-generated extensions, Apple is taking a bigger step toward integrating practical AI tools directly into the browsing experience.

Part of Apple's Larger AI Push

The new Safari feature arrives alongside a range of AI announcements at WWDC 2026, including the launch of Siri AI and upgrades to Apple Intelligence. By allowing users to generate custom browser tools through simple prompts, Apple is positioning AI as a way to make software creation more accessible while also strengthening Safari's competitiveness against rival browsers.
