Amazon rolls out AI ‘Kindle Translate’
Amazon has introduced “Kindle Translate,” an AI-powered tool to help independent authors publish their ebooks in additional languages via Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP).
The beta service—now available to a select group of KDP authors—currently translates between English and Spanish in both directions and from German into English.
Amazon states that fewer than 5% of titles on its platform are available in multiple languages, and the new tool aims to expand access to global readers.
Translated editions will be clearly labeled as “Kindle Translate” titles on their product pages, with free samples available so readers can assess the quality before making a purchase.
Amazon states that all AI-translated books undergo an automated accuracy review before publication, and authors retain control over pricing and the decision of when and whether to publish.
Titles created with Kindle Translate are eligible for KDP Select and inclusion in Kindle Unlimited, according to industry reports and Amazon’s community guidance.
The company has not announced a public rollout date but says additional languages are planned. The move follows earlier steps to expand multilingual content across Amazon’s reading ecosystem.
