Elon Musk Unveils ‘Grokipedia’ to Challenge Wikipedia’s Dominance

Elon Musk has announced plans for a new digital encyclopedia called “Grokipedia,” developed by his artificial intelligence company xAI, positioning it as a direct competitor to Wikipedia, which he has repeatedly accused of political bias.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Musk wrote: “We are building Grokipedia @xAI. It will be a massive improvement over Wikipedia. Frankly, it is a necessary step towards the xAI goal of understanding the Universe.”

His statement came in reply to entrepreneur David Sacks, who claimed that “Wikipedia is hopelessly biased.”

Musk has often targeted the online encyclopedia, describing it as “woke” and criticising its funding model based on donations. Earlier this year, he lashed out at the platform after it published an entry about him allegedly making a Nazi-like gesture during a Trump inauguration event.

In 2023, Musk jokingly offered to donate $1 billion to Wikipedia if it agreed to change its name to “Dickipedia.”

The new platform will be powered by Grok, xAI’s conversational chatbot launched as a rival to OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Grok has been trained on web data, including publicly available posts from X.

In a recent podcast appearance, Musk suggested that Grokipedia could one day automate the work of human editors by continuously updating information and correcting what he views as errors or ideological slant in Wikipedia’s content.

Musk described the project as part of his broader ambition to develop AI systems capable of “understanding the universe,” integrating factual data with the generative reasoning capabilities of xAI’s models.
