Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has reportedly said that no 7.5 percent VAT or tax will be imposed on the earnings of freelancers and content creators, according to content creator Jewel Rana of Chitta Media.

Rana met the Prime Minister at the Secretariat on Monday (June 1), where he raised concerns about reports suggesting that freelancers and digital content creators could face a 7.5 percent VAT on their income. According to Rana, the Prime Minister immediately instructed the relevant authorities to review the matter and assured him that such a tax would not be introduced.

Rana quoted Tarique Rahman as saying that young people should be encouraged to engage in digital marketing and international freelance work, as they contribute valuable foreign currency earnings to the country.

Jewel Rana is known for producing content focused on agriculture, nature, literature, and everyday life. His Facebook page, Chitta Media, has amassed more than 4.3 million followers since its launch in February last year. The government has not yet issued an official statement regarding the claims made by Rana following the meeting.
