Facebook adds new tool to protect creators’ Reels
Meta is introducing a content-protection tool to help creators safeguard their original Reels across Facebook and Instagram, expanding automated detection and enforcement options through Facebook’s Professional Dashboard.
Once enrolled, every original Reel a creator posts to Facebook is automatically protected. The system continuously scans both platforms for full or partial matches and alerts the creator when their work appears elsewhere without permission.
From a central dashboard, creators can then choose to track the match with attribution, block it from public view, or release the claim entirely. Several reports note that the feature builds on Meta’s existing matching technology used in Rights Manager.
Creators who opt to “track” a match can add an “original by” attribution that links back to their profile, while “blocked” matches are removed from public visibility without penalising the reposting account.
Meta says access is rolling out first to creators in its content monetization programs who meet originality standards, as well as to those already using Rights Manager. Other eligible users can apply via the Professional Dashboard.
Meta is also offering an optional “allow list” so creators can pre-approve specific accounts to reuse their work, alongside safeguards to dispute wrongful ownership claims and to submit copyright takedowns through its reporting channels.
Industry coverage underscores that the aim is to give original creators faster, in-app control over unauthorised reposts across both Facebook and Instagram.
