Honor teases ‘Robot Phone’ with AI camera arm at Magic 8 launch
Honor has released a teaser for what it bills as the world’s first “Robot Phone,” unveiling the concept during the launch of its Magic 8 series in China.
The brief video shows a smartphone with a gimbal-style camera mounted on a small robotic arm that extends from the rear and moves autonomously, a design positioned as part of Honor’s broader AI push.
The company states that fuller details will be provided at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in 2026.
According to coverage by major tech outlets, the robotic camera can swivel, track subjects and even exhibits playful, anthropomorphic touches in the teaser—comparisons were drawn to Pixar’s “WALL-E.”
While the footage appears computer-generated, Honor frames the device as a genuine concept within its “Alpha Plan,” a five-year, US$10 billion programme to develop AI-centric devices and robotics.
The teaser arrived alongside the Magic 8 line-up—Honor’s latest Android flagships emphasising on-device AI features—signalling how the company intends to blend multimodal intelligence, robotic mechanisms and advanced imaging in future hardware.
Media briefings indicate that the Robot Phone is designed to interact with users, recognise movement, and support creative capture scenarios, such as vlogging.
Honor Bangladesh’s Head of Business, Md Abdullah Al Mamun—whose role has been noted in recent local launches—welcomed the teaser as reinforcing the brand’s AI device ambitions.
More specifics on availability, pricing and production status remain unannounced. Honor has signalled that additional information will be shared next year at MWC 2026.
