OpenClaw Brings AI Agents to iOS and Android With New Mobile Apps
Open-source AI project OpenClaw has launched dedicated mobile apps for both iOS and Android, bringing its AI assistant to Apple's App Store and Google Play Store. The release allows users to interact with OpenClaw through native smartphone apps instead of relying on third-party messaging platforms.
The new apps let users chat with the AI assistant and grant it access to various device features, including the camera, screen, location, photos, contacts, calendar, and reminders. These permissions enable the AI to perform more advanced, agent-like tasks directly on users' devices.
From Open-Source Project to Rising AI Player
OpenClaw has rapidly evolved from a relatively small open-source project into a growing player in the AI ecosystem.
The project is now operated by the OpenClaw Foundation after founder Peter Steinberger joined OpenAI earlier this year. Although the foundation now oversees OpenClaw's development, OpenAI previously said it would continue providing support to the organization, though the nature of that support has not been disclosed.
Native Apps Arrive Despite Apple's Cautious Approach
The launch is particularly notable for iPhone users, as Apple has historically taken a stricter approach to reviewing agentic AI applications due to security concerns surrounding AI-generated, or "vibe," coding.
Because of those restrictions, many AI agent services have previously been unavailable as native iOS apps, forcing users to interact with them through messaging platforms such as Telegram or WhatsApp instead.
With the release of its dedicated iPhone app, OpenClaw brings native AI agent functionality to Apple's ecosystem while also expanding access for Android users through Google Play.
