Grameenphone appoints Andreas Högberg as CSTO
DHAKA, June 3 (TechWorld) - Grameenphone has appointed Andreas Högberg as its Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer (CSTO), effective June 1, as the telecom operator seeks to accelerate its digital transformation and long-term growth strategy.
The appointment comes as telecommunications companies increasingly expand beyond traditional connectivity services into areas such as digital services, cybersecurity, cloud solutions and artificial intelligence-driven offerings.
In the role, Högberg will lead Grameenphone's strategic transformation agenda and oversee the implementation of its five-year strategy, with a focus on innovation, strategic priorities and organisational change.
The company said he will play a key role in strengthening its competitive position, improving operational efficiency and supporting its evolution into a more digitally focused telecommunications and technology services provider.
Högberg brings more than 21 years of experience within Telenor, Grameenphone's majority shareholder, having worked across the Nordic region, South Asia and Southeast Asia in finance, technology and shared services roles.
Most recently, he served as Chief Financial Officer of Telenor Pakistan from June 2023 to December 2025. He also serves as a board member of Telenor Procurement Company.
Over the years, Högberg has held leadership positions supporting Grameenphone, Telenor Pakistan and Telenor Myanmar. He previously served as Vice President of Technology and Services, where he led group-wide initiatives related to global investment priorities.
Grameenphone Chief Executive Officer Yasir Azman said Bangladesh's telecom sector presents both challenges and growth opportunities, particularly in data, digital services, Internet of Things (IoT), business-to-business services and security solutions.
"As the industry continues to evolve, we are at a pivotal moment in refining our strategic direction," Azman said in a statement, adding that Högberg's leadership would help the company navigate industry transformation and strengthen its position in the market.
Högberg said his priorities would include aligning strategy with execution, strengthening customer focus and developing solutions that enrich customers' digital lives while delivering long-term value for shareholders.
"I am delighted to join the Grameenphone team and be part of this exciting journey ahead," he said.
Högberg studied at the Norwegian School of Economics and has completed executive education programmes at IMD, INSEAD and the Stockholm School of Economics.
