Meta Ray-Ban display glasses target the workplace
Meta’s new Ray-Ban Display smart glasses—its first pair with a built-in micro-LED screen—have launched in the US (September 30), with the UK, France, Italy and Canada slated for 2026.
The model looks like classic Ray-Bans but projects captions, directions, messages, and live video into view.
Priced around $799, including the Neural Band wrist strap for touch-free control, the glasses offer approximately six hours of use, plus an additional 30 hours via the charging case.
A 12MP camera records 1440p/30fps video; frames weigh about 70g and support prescriptions from −4.00 to +4.00.
The pitch to enterprises is hands-free, heads-up work. Field engineers can stream what they see to remote experts; warehouse staff can receive shipment updates in view; managers can glance at live captions or translations while moving between sites.
Voice commands trigger captions for common meeting platforms and send quick messages; the Neural Band reads subtle finger movements to accept or dismiss alerts.
Early deployments in logistics, healthcare, construction and field service point to faster responses and fewer task switches.
Rollouts will likely start with pilots in mobile-heavy teams (operations, logistics, facilities, sales). At $799 per unit, ROI hinges on saved time and reduced errors—like pulling up checklists, recording inspections, or capturing first-person incident video without pausing work.
Devices pair through the Meta app, support secure resets and passcodes, and can be managed much like phones.
Limits remain. There’s no open app store yet (most functions route through Meta’s software), battery life won’t last long for frontline shifts without case recharges, comfort may dip late in the day, and privacy norms surrounding cameras/mics demand clear policies.
Repairability appears modest, and the Neural Band ($199) adds to the total cost of ownership. Even so, market momentum is real, with smart-glasses shipments surging in 2025 and Meta leading share.
A sport-oriented Oakley Meta Vanguard variant was released on October 21, and next-gen models are expected to offer improved battery life and enhanced on-device AI capabilities.
