Square Enix Confirms Spring 2027 Release for Final Fantasy 7 Revelation
Square Enix has officially unveiled Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, the concluding chapter of its Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy, with a simultaneous release planned for PlayStation 5, Xbox, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC in Spring 2027.
The announcement was made during Summer Game Fest 2026, where a new trailer offered a first look at the game's story, exploration features and combat updates. The title will serve as the finale to the trilogy that began with Final Fantasy VII Remake and continued with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
Highwind Takes Flight
One of the trailer's biggest reveals was the debut of the iconic airship Highwind, allowing players to seamlessly travel between aerial exploration and ground-based gameplay. Characters can also parachute from the airship directly into different areas of the world.
The footage showcased fan-favorite characters Cid Highwind and Vincent Valentine joining the party as full battle companions for the first time in the remake trilogy. Vincent's signature transformation abilities were also briefly featured.
New Combat and Customization Features
Square Enix introduced a new equipment system called Fits, which will allow players to unlock additional combat abilities, battle enhancements and visual customization options for party members.
Players will once again be able to switch between characters during combat, continuing the action-oriented battle system established in the previous entries.
Trilogy Nears Its Conclusion
The 2027 launch date carries symbolic significance, arriving 30 years after the original Final Fantasy VII debuted on the original PlayStation. Over the past several years, Square Enix has expanded the classic RPG into a three-part remake series featuring a reimagined story, modern visuals and a redesigned combat system.
While the latest trailer offered a glimpse of new gameplay mechanics, Square Enix has yet to provide deeper details on how the combat system has evolved for the trilogy's final installment.
More information about Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is expected in the months ahead as the game approaches its Spring 2027 release window.
