The global competition in autonomous vehicle technology is reaching new heights. A recent AI-based index has revealed that China is overtaking the United States in the robotaxi sector. This new assessment signals a potential shift in the balance of power in the global technology race.

Research and consulting firm Autonomy AI developed the index using a generative AI platform. By analyzing data from public databases, government reports, financial documents, and industry sources, the company evaluated firms based on their operations, revenue, partnerships, production capabilities, and safety records. The index is updated every 12 hours.

According to the latest data, Baidu's Apollo Go ranks first in the robotaxi sector. Waymo follows closely in second place. China's Pony.ai and WeRide occupy the third and fourth positions, respectively, while Tesla ranks fifth.

Analysts attribute this success to the rapid technological advancement of Chinese companies and their ability to deploy their technologies on a large scale. From city-based pilot programs to commercial expansion, Chinese firms have demonstrated strong leadership across the industry.

Meanwhile, the presence of autonomous vehicles continues to grow in the United States. In Texas, the number of registered vehicles operated by Waymo and Tesla has increased significantly in recent months. Zoox is also expanding its fleet, although it has yet to launch a fully commercial service.

In addition, Avride, Nuro, and MOIA - a subsidiary of Volkswagen - have maintained stable operations.

Industry experts believe that this new index will provide a clearer and more transparent picture of global competition in autonomous vehicle technology. It may also play an important role in shaping future investment decisions and policymaking.
