Microsoft has announced that support for its popular Office 2021 productivity suite will officially end on October 13, 2026. After that date, the software will no longer receive security updates, bug fixes, or technical support.

The company stated that Office 2021 will continue to function even after support ends. However, newly discovered security vulnerabilities will no longer be patched, potentially exposing users to cyber threats such as viruses, spyware, and other forms of malware.

Microsoft also confirmed that no Extended Security Updates (ESU) or additional support programs will be offered for Office 2021. Phone and online support services will also be gradually discontinued.

This decision applies to all editions of Office 2021. Microsoft has advised users to upgrade to a newer version or migrate to Microsoft 365 in order to continue receiving regular updates and security protections.

According to industry experts, Microsoft's continued shift toward the subscription-based Microsoft 365 platform reflects a broader industry trend toward cloud-based computing and services.

The company has also noted that individual, educational, and corporate users may require different upgrade paths depending on their specific needs.

Overall, users who do not upgrade before the end-of-support deadline may face increased security risks if they continue using Office 2021.
