Meta Brings AI-Powered Creator Tools to Its Edits App
Meta has previewed a range of new features for its video-editing app Edits, including an AI assistant and a desktop version, as the company looks to strengthen its position against rival video editor CapCut.
The announcements were made during an invite-only creator event in Los Angeles.
The upcoming AI assistant is designed to help creators understand their performance and generate new content ideas. It will analyze Instagram data, including views and audience retention, to explain what is working and why.
The assistant will also suggest new video ideas based on past performance and recommend content using trending audio. By integrating these capabilities directly into Edits, Meta hopes to keep creators inside its own ecosystem instead of relying on external tools such as ChatGPT for brainstorming and analytics.
The company introduced a similar AI assistant for Facebook creators last week. YouTube and TikTok already offer comparable features for content ideation and trend discovery.
Meta also confirmed that a desktop version of Edits is on the way. The new version will give creators more precise editing controls and allow them to work on a larger screen. Users will also be able to move projects seamlessly between mobile and desktop devices. The desktop release is important for Meta because CapCut already offers editing tools across multiple platforms.
Alongside the upcoming additions, Meta is rolling out several new features to all users today. A new Beta tab will give creators early access to experimental tools that are still under development and allow them to provide feedback directly to the company. Edits is also expanding its analytics dashboard. Creators can now see more detailed audience information, including demographic breakdowns and the times of day when their followers are most active. These insights join existing metrics such as watch duration, follower growth and audience drop-off points.
The Inspiration feed is also getting an upgrade. Users can now search specific topics to discover trending Reels and templates related to particular ideas. Creators will also be able to make multiple versions of a video to test different approaches before publishing.
Although Meta did not disclose how many people use Edits, the company said content created with the app sees a 10% higher save rate and a 2% higher reshare rate compared with content made outside the platform. Meta also said that more than half of the people watching Reels on Instagram see content created with Edits every day.
The AI assistant is currently being tested with attendees of the creator event, while the desktop version is expected to launch soon. The newly announced analytics and experimentation features are available starting today.
Edits remains free to download on both iOS and Android.
